We often hear the word LCD but do we actually know what it actually means? LCD is the acronym for Liquid Crystal Display. These televisions have become popular because of their high-resolution and excellent image quality. The life duration of LCD TVs is known to be greater than that of Plasma TVs. Although this is true, it does not imply that LCD TVs will not deteriorate at all. They are also prone to damages and other electronic flaws. The twisting and untwisting of crystal is the principle why it is working.

Normally, the life expectancy for LCD TVs is approximately 60, 000 hours. In fact, some LCD TV companies claim that we can also expect LCD TVs to last even up to 80, 000 hours, when used under restricted settings. To achieve this longer life span, the consumer should control the temperature of the room, as well as the environmental condition and its preservation. Generally, the quality of pictures in LCD TVs will changes as years pass, this is because the TV has been exposed to great lights that could lessen the brightness of the screen. This happens even to other electronic gadgets. In this case, consumers must give significant importance to the life duration of the source of light or brightness of the LCD TV. They should check on the warranty of this feature because it is the main function that has effect on the clearness and quality of images.

To have great white stability in the LCD television, it is essential to preserve the high value or performance of the light source. The higher the quality of the back light bulb of the TV, the longer its lifespan would be. So when choosing a TV, it is better to invest on those branded once which usually comes with repair warranties than purchasing those with lower price but sacrificing the warranty which is very important. Users should also be aware that contrast level is also a factor in preserving the life span of the TV. If you use the lesser contrast level, the longer the lifespan of your LCD TV will be. And also, the higher the level of your ambient light, the lesser will be the life duration of the light source.

LCD TVs differ in terms of the placement of the light source. For example, some Sharp LCD TVs have this model wherein the light source is apart from the unit while other models have the light source built in them. The advantage of the first one is that even when the light source gets damaged, the TV will still be working. And the disadvantage for the TVs with built-in light source is that the LCD TV will become a trash if the light source deteriorates. Always keep in mind the warranty of the back light when purchasing a TV because it is the main factor why LCD TVs operates. LCD TVs cannot really last a lifetime; it has its own limitation. Unlike Plasma TVs, the lifespan of LCD TVs is not that long but they are easy to repair just like conventional televisions - that means if your TV has a maintenance warranty, you can still prolonged the life of your LCD TV after it wears off.

A number of small cells are contained in the LCD display and these are called pixels. Pixels are responsible for the image sharpness that you receive as well as the quality. With the advancement of technology, the images delivered on television have become more realistic. The LCD display also has a fluorescent back light that reflects light in to a mirror and in turn, projects it on the screen.

Aside from comparing shops, also compare brands whenever you are buying your flat screen TV. Check the websites like Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Circuit City, or Target for good buys. They offer bargains that you can get. When before, LCD TVs are luxury items, now, they have become commodity items because of the advancement in technology. Companies are often in tight competition due to lesser profit margins.

Gone are the perceptions that LCD can only be used with screens that are smaller in sizes. These ideas have been proven false by manufacturers like Samsung, LG, and Sharp.

It is very important to set a budget first.

Take into consideration the features that you are looking for in your ideal flat screen. There are LCD sets which support memory cards and camcorders.

Decide on the size of the panel according to your room size. Note the space that is available and that if your room will not get too crowded and things like that.

Make sure that the viewing angles in relation to your room will be adequate.

Consider where the speakers are located. They may be located at the bottom while some can be found on the sides.

A resolution of 1366 x 768 is recommended. Here, you must think about the quality of the picture you want in case you want a bigger screen.

Get some feedback from customers who have already bought the product to know more about the flat screen that you want to buy. Staff in the store will also be able to help you whether they have recommendations on a certain model based on their experience.

The Launch of a new range of iPods always brings an air of excitement to all iPod fans. The New nano 4th Gen dubbed "the thinnest iPod ever" has been the worst kept secret with in Apple's recent history, images of the Nano were posted on and around many internet forums several days before the iPod was supposed to be released.

The new Nano has been totally redesigned from the previous shorter fatter shape of the Nano 3rd Gen it now stands tall and thin resembling the first & second generation versions. Although styled on the first generation's of the Nano the 4th gen has been thoroughly modernised creating a much easier on the eye style. The Case is now curved oval shape, with the glass screen matching the aluminium housing.

The newest feature of the iPod Nano 4th is the inclusion of the accelerometer, previously seen in the iPhone. This device allows you to shuffle tracks by simply shaking the iPod, the tracks will then automatically randomise. Another cool Nano feature is Cover Flow technology which allows you to browse album covers when the iPod is turned onto its side.

The good news for Dension owners is that the new iPod Nano 4th gen and revised iPod Touch will work with the Dension Gateway systems if the newer firmware has been installed. Problems were caused earlier in the year when Apple changed the way the iPhone 3G charges to a newer 5V system, that the previous Gateway could not support. The Nano 4th gen also has the 5v charging system so will work perfectly with the Dension Gateway. However due to the new shape of the Nano the Active cradle inserts may not accept the Nano 100% correctly so for the mean time its best to connect via the Dock Cable that will accept all iPods.

HDMI to HDMI Sony PS3 Plasma LCD HDTV High Definition Video Cable GOLD-PLATED - 10 feet

HDMI Cable - 10ft - 1 x HDMI, 1 x HDMI 10' HDMI A - HDMI A CABLE (19 PIN) HDMI to HDMI cables are designed for use with hi-def HDTV video signals. Our premium quality cable is perfect for your home theater installations. Description:
Customer Review: Not full HD
Be aware that the highest setting you will get with this cable is 1080i, not 1080p. Also, the description does not state it is HDMI 1.3 compliant. This is all fine if you have a 720p or 1080i set.
Customer Review: No difference between this cable & the expensive ones - don't waste $$ - buy this one.
When I was considering buying these cables to connect my new TV to my cable box and PS3, I was absolutely dumbfounded by the difference in prices. As you can see, this cable is dirt cheap and you almost pay more for the shipping price than you do for the cable. When I went to the electronics store, they had a selection of these cables and none of them went for less than $75.00. I decided to be patient and shop the price as it saved me $130.00. Even the brand-named cables advertised on amazon are no different than this cable. I can't explain the vast disparity in the prices but am sure glad I checked here first. Buy this one, and save $70.00.

Have you been looking for the right entertainment center for your home? Maybe you have searched various furniture stores, or have been looking online. I'm sure you have seen many styles and colors, and maybe you have not been able to find one that fits your expectations. Have you ever considered a built in entertainment center? Let me share with you some of the benefits of owning one:

-It will be built to fit in with the structure of your house and will follow the designs and colors you already have. The woodwork will be done to match any other woodwork in your home.

- You won't have to worry about any of your DVDs or CDs falling behind it. With a traditional entertainment center, you would have to move it every time something falls behind it. With an entertainment center that is built in, it is absolutely impossible for that to happen.

- If you have small children, you won't have to worry about them climbing on a built in entertainment center and causing it to tip and fall on top of them. There have been cases where small children have had these kinds of accidents.

- In the case of an earthquake, it will not fall over causing your expensive electronics to fall and break.

- With a built in entertainment center, you won't have to move it to clean behind it. If it is built in, there won't be any way for the dust to accumulate behind it.

- It will add style and elegance to your decor. It will give your home that "custom built" kind of look and feel.

These are just a few of the benefits of owning a built in entertainment center. There are so many different styles and colors. You will be able to choose the wood grain and color to match your furniture or your cabinetry. The size and the style can be custom built to fit your living room, family room, or den; you could even have one built in the bedroom. You may be concerned about not being able to move the entertainment center in the future if you choose to re-arrange things. I'm sure you have never thought about moving your kitchen cabinets or your stove.

Your entertainment center would become a part of your house, not just another piece of furniture. Of course you want only the best for your home and family. You need to make the right decision as to what will accommodate your needs. Unless you plan on moving in the near future I'm sure you will take into consideration all of the above mentioned benefits of owning a built in entertainment center. I hope that this information will be helpful to you in choosing your entertainment center.

Sound moves outwardly as a wave, in all directions, from its original source. These waves travel as vibrating pressure undulations interacting with everything in their path. Depending on the nature of the impedance it encounters, a sound wave can be deflected, reflected or even absorbed. In essence, this is what acoustic treatment is; undertaking procedures using specific materials or electrical devices to minimize unwanted or unnecessary sounds.

The need for acoustically treating a particular area or room can depend on lifestyle, legal issues or environmental factors ranging from a operating a home theater system, to owning a recording studio or even residing close to a major city highway or airport.

With this in mind, it is easy to understand why acoustically insulating a specific region could be desirable. It can minimize the amount of noise pollution entering from an external source, or conversely keep sound contained within a particular area.

Home theaters are an excellent example of this; Bad acoustics will render the surround sound effect of your favorite movies completely lacking in their majesty because the sound will 'leak' out of the room like water through a sieve. Insulating the room not only 'traps' the sound within the confined space, causing the audio reverberate and 'surround' you, but also prevents any external noise entering the room and ruining the ambiance of the movie.

There are a variety of materials available which adequately perform the task of acoustic insulator. Some are of course better than others, but there is often a compromise between budget, weight constraints, size constraints and time restrictions. Porous foams and viscoelastic polymers are excellent insulators because they 'deform' under the wave's vibrations, absorbing the mechanical energy and converting it to heat, dissipating said heat within the immediate environment. Denser materials like concrete, brick or steel absorb some of the sound, but due to their density will reflect most of it.

Panasonic TH-50PHD8UK 50-Inch Plasma HDTV

This 16:9 widescreen plasma set a bright display that will look good in any room, on any wall or on any surface. It comes standard with both basic video and PC inputs and is easily expandable to accommodate a variety of different sources.

Image
Panasonic's Multi-Facet Asymmetrical Configuration Hyper-Pixel (MACH) panel features new materials and technology that improves the light-emitting efficiency and intensity of their plasma screens. The result is a deeper contrast ratio (up to 3,000:1 in dark areas), 2,048 shades of gradation (4,096 shades via HDMI or DVI connection and optional accessory board),3.62 billion full-time displayable colors. It boasts a 1,366 x 768 resolution and is compatible with a whole host of HD signals, from 1080i to 480p.

The TH-50PHD8UK also uses a host of Panasonic image improving features. Adaptive Gain Control raises contrast while suppressing noise by detecting and boosting only the image edges. Motion Picture Noise Disturbance Reduction detects motion patterns that tend to generate noise and makes adjustments to maximize image quality without diminishing the quality of stationary background objects. The Active Interlace/Progressive Conversion System reduces interlace to progressive conversion noise that often occurs when reproducing tiny movements, resulting in better vertical resolution.

Connections
The TH-50PHD8UK features both flexible A/V and IT system configurations. Built-in video connections include S-video, BNC, and component. Accessory boards expand your possibilities to include SDI, HD-SDI, HDMI, DVI-D w/HDCP, Twisted-Pair cable, and IEEE 802.11b. Have the set do double duty as your PC monitor, too, since it supports VGA, SVGA, XGA, SXGA, and UXGA PC signals and comes with a common PC monitor port. The Remotes System Monitoring Command feature allows users to control their TH-50PHD8UK via RS-232C interface. If you really want to get fancy, a built-in wall processor allows you to array TH-50PHD8UKs in 2x2, 3x3, or even 4x4 multi-screen video walls.

50-inch Wide Screen
A general rule of thumb for selecting the right size television screen is that the screen width--not its 37-inch diagonal measurement--should be between three and five times the optimum viewing distance, such as the distance from the TV screen to where your eyes are while sitting on the couch. Less than that and you may be distracted by the scan lines of the picture. More than that, and you may lose the detail of your TV. Based on this guide, the TH-50PHD8UK is ideal for viewing distances of 11 to 18 feet.

Other Features
Panasonic's new Advanced Dual Picture Mode simultaneously displays images from two different video sources or a video and PC source. 4x Digital Zoom allows you to divide the screen into zones and enlarge images up to 400%. The set also features enhanced screen saver and energy-saving functions.

Customer Review: Shopping for a plasma? Stop here.
I work in Visual Effects at a top shop. We have ten "Flame" compositing systems, and we use this screen in every suite. The reason? They are THE BEST. Period. End of story. I am in teh Motion Picture Academy (the "Oscars" folks) and so I get movies from the studios to watch before I vote. This means I need what I call a "critical viewing" setup at home. When the time came two years ago for us to go big and flat at home, the coice of a screen was a no-brainer. Not only did our Vid Techs choose this after extensive research, but Consumer Reports chose it as the top pic for three years now. It is great. I do suggest you tape over the Panasonic logo with black tape to reduce visual distraction. Here's the BEST thing about this screen. It is a MONITOR, meaning it has no video tuner or audion amplifier. Most folks feed their TV from a cable or satellite box, so a tuner is unneccessary. They also often use a home theater audio amp, so the speakers and audio amp in most plasmas (and other types of screens) is a waste. That means you will eb spending around $1.000 for stuff YOU WILL NEVER USE! Get a MONITOR, not a television. Besides the already mentioned quality, and ruggedness, you will save enough to upgrade the rest of the system... While you're at it, check out the OPPO brand DVD players. They embarrass players costing 5 times as much and up-res to HiDef BEAUTIFULLY!!! (for about $150!) Hope you like the screen. We do!
Customer Review: Incredible
I purchased this model based on the other reviews and haven't regreted my decision at all. The monitor works perfectly adjusting the picture when the HD locals drop out of the HD format, sports have regained my interest, although now I can see the replays and judge how accurate the NFL refs have the call (they have a lot of improvement ahead). For anyone buying a HD TV check out the internet sites as to what to expect from content providers (DBS talk is good for sat.) and for me the best HD is being provided by Dicovery HD channel, simply stunning..

You must be very happy to have finally bought an LCD TV. TV viewing will never be the same again. With this, you may also want to complement your new television with a new LCD TV stand. This will help save space and in the future, will also serve as storage for the media that you have.

Flat screen TV stands are much slender than the normal televisions. Therefore the thinner the stand, the more space it will save. The smooth and shiny look is better than the normal television. Many people are now opting for console stands because the TV is more exposed. Even though your TV is smaller, a stand is still important because you will also need a place where you will be storing your DVDs, and video games and other media.

Do not use your old stand because it will be totally out of place and it will not fit. An average CRT TV is 21 inches while an LCD or plasma TV measures up to 32 inches. In this regard, your old TV stand is already obsolete. Later on, you may want to buy a screen enlarger. This is something that hooks your LCD and provides you a larger screen. This is another factor that will make your LCD stand look rather obsolete. But then if your old stand means a lot to you and if it is big enough to accommodate you LCD TV, then you may use it as you wish.

A new LCD stand will prove to be helpful as you accumulate media throughout the years. Either you discard the others, or you keep them. Discarding your old media will prove to be not easy so it is better to just store them in the compartments of your LCD TV stand.

Customer Review: Nice HDMI Cable
This cable does exactly as promised. The length was perfect for running a cable from my ceiling mounted Mitsubishi HC3000u projector to my dvd player. It fit perfectly!! The shipper was great to work with, and the cable arrived cross-country very quickly!! I would buy from them again!

Despite what the salesman at your local A/V shop tells you, sound proofing and sound treatment are not interchangeable terms in acoustics. Sound proofing is the process of creating a space that prevents any form of sound from escaping it, while sound treatment is the manipulation of a room's response to particular frequencies to create a balanced sound within the room. Although there are similar materials for both procedures, their expected outcomes and processes are nonetheless very different.

Sound proofing a room

If you're creating a space that will be used to contain a huge amount of sound and noise (like a death metal band's rehearsal space), the best way to do this would be to build a room within a room. The room itself should have a thick cement floor, walls and ceiling. This forms an outer shell which is the space's last line of sound proofing, and must be dense enough to absorb even the loudest low frequency sounds.

Within it, another room must be made whose walls, ceiling and floor (ideally) may be made of cement as well to ensure maximum density. Drywalls filled with sheetrock or fiberglass can also be used. This inner room must be smaller than the outer room and is generally placed in the middle of it, allowing for a space between them where the resultant escaping sound is trapped even more. This ensures that only a minimum of sound meets the walls of the outer room, thus increasing the chances of a 100% sound proofed room.

Treating a room

Treating a room requires less material than sound proofing it, but requires more patience and knowledge as there will be frequent listening tests and adjustments to be made in order to create a tailor-fit sound. There are three ways to treat a room, either by sound absorption, reflection or diffusion.

Sound absorption is important in an acoustically treated room/studio because it eliminates standing waves and early reflections from surfaces. Taming these undesirable sounds also creates a clearer and more precise stereo image, as in the case of a mix engineer's suite. Sound absorption is achieved through the placement of porous material such as cloth and fiberglass in strategic areas. These act as traps that absorb high and mid frequencies, and are generally placed around the room and on the ceiling. To trap low frequencies, denser absorbers (called bass traps) are placed in locations that form corners, such as between walls and in spaces where the room's wall's meet the ceiling.

Diffusion serves to scatter sound hitting its surface in random directions. Though less ubiquitous than absorbers and reflectors, diffusers serve an important purpose of preventing redundant travel of sound waves. Diffusers are generally crafted with a mathematical model as a guide to ensure the randomness of its surface. Once sound arrives on the face of the diffuser, it is distributed in an arbitrary manner.

The next time you decide to create a quality listening space, define first whether or not you would like to sound proof it, treat it, or even both. Knowing what you would want to do ahead will save you energy and money by letting you focus on what would be the priorities for your acoustic project.

You can watch and listen to any media that is on any computer or NAS in your home, as well as stream video from hulu.com and other sources, music from last.fm, and share your likes and dislikes with your friends running boxee. This is a really fun and cool product and a 100 times better with Boxee.
Customer Review: Apple TV brings home entertainment to a whole new level...
Apple TV: Apple TV has been a great addition to my entertainment arsenal. The issue is that the HD space is limited. I had more music and movies than Apple TV HD space. What did I do? I discovered that streaming (not copying to Apple TV HD) my Itunes library has enabled me to stream endless amounts of data. I ended up purchasing an external HD of 1TB and am able to stream countless movies and music data over my wireless network. I use my computer memory instead of my Apple TV space. I would highly recommend going this route and getting the smaller Apple TV version if you are trying to save some cash. The only thing I have stored on my Apple TV is my pictures. I would only recommend doing this if you have high-speed internet and an adequate computer to handle the extra load. I have thoroughly enjoyed my Apple TV and have found several still old time photos and use them in my slideshows when people are over. High-Def Still photos are great conversation starters and create a unique visual appeal to all those gazing upon a HDTV.

In my retail research, I am frequently asked "what are the best technology gifts to give for Christmas each year?"

I often have trouble coming up with the answer but this year the answer is simple. I have found two technology gifts that I absolutely love: the iPod Nano Purple and the Flip Video Camera.

Technology has come a long way but technology advances normally bring a steep, somewhat exhausting, learning curve. However, manufacturers are now realizing that people want the latest technologies but with ease and elegance attached. Each of these gifts, the iPod Nano Purple and the Flip Video Camera, embraces the absolute latest in technology yet each is extremely simply to use, well-designed, and, as my daughter would say: "cool".

Let's start with the iPod Nano Purple.

There is one fact that we must acknowledge: You need to have an iPod. You need to have an iPod because you need music in your life. Music soothes, elevates, compliments and enhances your life. So, then the question is: Which iPod is for you?

Until now, I have had the iPod Shuffle. I have liked it for the following four reasons: simplicity, price, elegance, and randomness, because, as the slogan says, Life is Random. I thought I was tied to the iPod Shuffle for life until I happened upon the Mac Store recently.

There, I spotted the iPod Nano Purple and was immediately taken. It is absolute elegance in the way that it shines and feels to the touch. And, when I read that it had 16GB of memory, I thought that this may be able to hold almost all of my music. In fact, it allows for 4,000 songs, 14,000 photos, or 16 hours of video. My allegiance to the shuffle did not last long-I immediately bought the iPod Nano Purple.

After I used it for a week, I realized that this Nano is a great compliment to my other technology recommendation for 2008: the Flip Video Camera.

Video cameras have been around for a long time now, but you may not be aware of the new Flip Video Camera and the promises that it is able to fulfill. You need to ask yourself one question to realize why you need the Flip Video Camera: Do you take your video camera with you wherever you go?

The answer to the question for me was no, until I got the Flip Video Camera. This video camera is so compact that you can take it with you like you would take a PDA. But what about all the accessories, the tapes, the battery packs, the power cables? With the Flip Video Camera, you do not need any of this. All of the video (which is rendered in Hi-Def with the new MinoHd) is stored on a chip in the camera-no tapes necessary. With great battery life and a built-in USB port that connects to your TV, this product is easily one of the best Christmas Gifts for 2008.

And now, I can put my personal videos on my Purple iPod Nano and take my video memories with me wherever I want.

Each at around the $200 mark, the iPod Nano Purple and the Flip Video Camera are easily the two best technology gifts for 2008.

The Hauppauge 1199 WinTV-HVR-1600 includes dual TV tuners to let you watch both digital and analog television on your PC, in a window or full screen. With PVR software and built-in hardware for MPEG-2 encoding, you can also record television onto your computer for viewing later without slowing down your computer.

The Hauppauge 1199 WinTV-HVR-1600 offers:
  • Dual TV tuners to watch digital and analog television signals.
  • Compatible with ATSC and QAM digital TV, and analog cable TV signals.
  • Dbx-TV stereo decoding for spectacular sound.
  • Built-in MPEG-2 hardware encoding.

Dual tuners lets you watch both digital and analog signals. View larger.
Watch High-definition Digital TV on Your Computer
With dual format TV tuners, the WinTV-HVR-1600 lets you watch ATSC digital TV as well as QAM digital TV and analog cable TV. ATSC digital TV, which typically requires an antenna for reception, is the over-the-air HDTV standard for North America. ATSC broadcasts range in resolution from standard definition up to the high definition 1080i format. (To check the ATSC digital transmissions in your area, input your zip code at titantv.com.)

The WinTV-HVR-1600 also lets you watch and record QAM channels, which are unencrypted digital channels broadcast by your local cable operator. If you don't have access to digital television channels yet, you can also watch regular analog cable television. And with the included remote control, you can control your cable TV or satellite set top box.

In addition to high-definition video, the card also features a dbx-TV stereo decoder for great TV sound. The card has Composite/S-Video and audio inputs that allow for connecting VCRs or cable/satellite set top boxes.

Your Own Personal Digital Video Recorder!
With the included software, you can easily record TV shows to your hard disk using MPEG-2. Several recording options are available depending on your playback needs; higher quality video requires more disk space. Generally, 5 gigabytes of disk space is used per hour of ATCS digital TV recordings.. Thanks to the built-in hardware MPEG-2 encoder, your PC continues to run at full speed even while recording.

The WinTV application offers an elegant interface to watch TV in a window or full screen. View larger.
With the WinTV-Scheduler software, easily schedule the recordings of your favorite television shows daily, weekly, or just once. You can then play back the recordings at your leisure, burn them onto CD or DVD for playback on another computer or your television, or with video editing software (not included), you can edit the shows. This is great for saving favorite movie clips, or of your favorite teams dramatic last-second win or your favorite player's grand slam.

The Hauppauge 1199 WinTV-HVR-1600 plugs into a PCI slot and is compatible with Windows Vista, XP with Service Pack 2, and Windows XP Media Center Edition. With XP-MCE and Vista, you can add the WinTV-HVR-1600 as either the primary or secondary TV tuner. The Microsoft Media Center application supports up to two TV tuners so you can watch on channel while recording another.

What's in the Box
WinTV-HVR-1600 PCI card, IR remote control receiver, IR Blaster (remote control), CD-ROM with WinTV software.

Customer Review: Good but not great
Decent PCI TV tuner with good picture quality. Hauppauge software WinTV sucked, so ended up using it with Vista Media Center and it worked fine. Could not get QAM working but that's ok. Have been using it for the last year or so. But if someone would want to buy it now, I would not recommend it for this price. There are better cards available like the 2250 from Hauppauge.
Customer Review: Nice picture. Clumsy software.
This gives a fine picture on a fairly ordinary PC with 2GB RAM and 2.6Ghz Pentium 4 processor with Windows XP. But, the setup configuration is confusing and non-intuitive. For instance, the inputs on the config screen don't seem to match the physical input jacks and, in some cases, are listed twice. I had a black-and-white picture with no audio after following the instruction sheet and was about to ask for tech support when I accidentally tried another input that I was certain was incorrect and "magically" cured the audio and color problems. No opinion on the remote or the recording capability as I'm feeding the board with an external digital-to-analog TV converter box and using its controls instead of the Hauppauge remote, and am not recording (i.e., no PVR use). But, I get a nice picture that can be resized and no obvious effect on PC performance.

There was a time when TVs and speakers sat on a cabinet in the corner of a room, inconspicuous and small. But now they are the focus of the modern living room and take pride of place on the wall - so how do you get them up there and what are the advantages?

The first big plus of hanging your TV on the wall is the floor space that you'll free up. In a small room this can make all the difference, changing a cramped environment into an airy space. In a larger room, it will allow you to get a more interesting piece of furniture or extra seating in place of a dull TV cabinet.

With the new large plasma screens that are increasingly the norm, placing the TV up on the wall means you can sit back on a sofa or lie back in bed, look up and enjoy a cinema experience. And speakers up high will give better acoustics, so that you get more from your music system.

Of course you must make sure that the wall you are using is strong enough to carry the load. Plasma, wall mounted screens are heavy and need adequate support so you don't end up with a disaster on your hands. The same applies if you are wall mounting a box TV set. LCD screens, until now not as popular as plasma screens are improving in quality and have the distinct advantage of being lighter weight so they may well gain market share.

An electrician can help to hide the wiring which would otherwise be exposed, tavelling up the wall. This is certainly a job for a professional - he will need to run the wires through the wall cavity and bring them back out at the right level. Alternatively wiring can be camouflaged by being painted the same colour as the wall or wrapped in tape that, again, matches the wall. You will also need an electrician to run the cables for your video feeds, in addition to the power cables.

Wall mounted speakers have the advantage of being smaller than traditional speakers so they will make less of an impact on the look of your room. They can also be angled in any direction, allowing them to be installed on any part of the wall and still be effective. If you want something even less visible then in-ceiling and in-wall speakers use the ceiling and wall cavities as the speaker cabinets, with only the front exposed, which can be the same colour as the ceiling or wall so they are barely visible.

And if even that spoils the aesthetics of your room you can go for the ultimate sound experience. This involves the speakers being placed entirely in the wall cavity and using powerful electronic devices called transducers which can transmit high quality sound through solid walls. This is the technology that cinemas use and as long as you have a wall cavity there's no reason why you can't have it at home. You'll need the expertise of a good electrician who is familiar with the technology and you'll need to buy the hardware but prices are coming down and certainly this system is becoming a feasible alternative. And it will allow you complete freedom to decorate and arrange your room as you wish.

Home entertainment is getting more sophisticated and exciting but the bits you don't need to see are increasingly easy to hide - surely that's the best of both worlds. Just get the right hardware and a good electrician to help you and you can enjoy all the benefits of modern entertainment technology.

Expert electrician India Cooper reveals how wall mounted TVs and speakers installed by an experienced electrician can improve the quality of your home entertainment. To find out more please visit http://www.ratedpeople.com/find/electrician

LG 19LG30 19-Inch 720p LCD HDTV

Like all LG products the LG30 series is as aesthetically stylish as tit is technologically advanced. Slim, sleek and sophisticated - the LG30 series will enhance your sense of style.
Customer Review: poor sound
Great picture, but horrible sound. I will be returning this. I wanted this LG 19lg30 to replace my small analog TV in the kitchen. It's small and compact, but I can't decipher the sounds.
Customer Review: Watch out for lip-sync problem
I bought this model at Fry's, and just returned it after giving it a three-week trial. The picture quality is excellent. Alas, this was marred by a very noticeable lip-sync (aka lip-flap) problem when viewing HD signals - search Wikipedia for lip-sync for an explanation, but briefly, it is when the speaker's mouth movements trail the audio. This was my first exposure to HDTV and digital signals, and I assumed Comcast cable was at fault. When I called to complain, they shrugged off the problem by saying the TV's electrical design is the culprit (something about not enough "digital-processing horsepower"). Some HD TVs have a control to impart a delay to the audio to re-sync the signals, and Comcast suggested checking the user maunal to see if it has one (it does not). Whatever the truth is, the out-of-sync performance became increasingly distracting, and was a show-stopper for me.

Watching movies like iRobot or cartoon shows like The Jetsons makes people wish to live in a futuristic world filled with the many conveniences and comforts depicted in these movies. They even show robots doing all the household chores and even cooking fantastic dinners. Although this type of technology does not exist in reality, there is an advanced technology known as home automation system that is futuristic and available today.

The home automation technology is widely available in the form of consumer products in some of the rich countries. People are living in futuristic homes fitted out with home automation systems. Even though these systems are comparatively new, they are gaining popularity among people who lead a hectic life. Home automation makes their lives a little easier, even though it may be an expensive proposition.

How do home automation system work? They are basically made up of three components, namely, structured wiring, the micro-processor and the connection center. The connection center is deemed to be the core of the home automation system. The structured wiring is installed all through the house to the hubs located in the connection center. The micro-processor can be likened to the brain of the system, and is housed in the connection center. You can program the commands in the microprocessor. The structured wiring is installed by the professionals from the store where you have purchased the system.

The microprocessor allows you to control the different electronic equipment in the house such as electronic appliances and lights. Touch screens, remote controls and keypads will be the interface. Home automation systems can be connected to the internet so that you can have access to it from anywhere, so long as you are connected to the net. This could be termed as the ultimate convenience in the area of home automation.

Life today is very hectic and all tasks are scheduled as per availability of time. Most people find it difficult to perform simple chores due to lack of time. However, home automation systems come to the aid of such people and make their life a little bit easier by automatically taking care of the more mundane tasks. If you forget to turn on the dishwasher, you can do it from your office, through the control panel of the home automation system with the help of your PDA.

The home automation system can be used to preset some of the appliances to come on at a particular time. For example, you can set the coffee maker for seven o'clock in the morning and your freshly brewed coffee will be ready when you wake up. Home automation systems can be programmed to turn off the lights and turn on the security system automatically. You need not check out all these things yourself; the home automation system will do it for you.

Home automation systems have made life much easier. The system will help you to manage your time better and thus help to reduce stress. Home automation systems are slowly becoming popular and very soon it will be used by all those people who find it beneficial in saving their valuable time. This remarkable technology is now easily available in stores everywhere.

Bluetooth Headsets

Bluetooth is an electronic communications technology, a short-range communication system for transferring data to and from fixed and mobile apparatus. It is used for establishing a wireless personal area network utilizing the radio technology known as the frequency hopping spread spectrum. The Bluetooth technology is applied in mobile phones, laptops, telephones, personal computers, GPS receivers, printers, video game consoles, and digital cameras.

Bluetooth technology has been in existence since 1999. This modern wireless innovation was named after a 10th-century Danish king with great liking for tooth-staining blueberries.

Bluetooth sounds intimidating to ordinary individuals but is actually a cheap gadget with simple uses. One of the most common usages is for wireless headsets. It enables hands-free communication, common to pilots. Headsets used to be bulky and heavy, but the introduction of Bluetooth made headsets lighter and more efficient now.

Cell phone owners with Bluetooth capabilities could take calls while driving. They could also do other jobs with their two hands while talking to somebody over the mobile phone. The wireless device has greatly reduced the rate of vehicular accidents.

There are two common categories of Bluetooth mono headsets. These are headsets with boom and units without this attachment. The extended microphone arching towards the mouth is the boom. This kind of headset model tends to be bulkier. Examples of the boom type headsets are Jabra BT500, Motorola H605, and the compact Motorola H700.

Headsets without boom are more popular these past few years. Aside from looking more fashionable, these headsets are more compact, smaller, and slender. Among the models without boom are the Nokia BH-801, Jabra JX10, Motorola H9 Miniblue, and the Motorola Razr H3. The amazing Aliph Jawbone 2 Bluetooth headset has noise shield technology.

Bluetooth headsets are also in stereo. These headset models are similar in appearance and performance to wired counterparts. The kind of stereo headsets include Plantronics Pulsar 260 and Sony Ericsson HBH-DS970. Samsung SBH-170 and the Motorola S9 are behind-the-neck stereo headphones that provide high comfort and good sound quality.

There are few Bluetooth headsets integrating several functions in their designs. The Bluetooth headset that could switch from mono to stereo is the Jabra BT8010. A secondary earpiece is attached to have a stereo sound. Another headset is capable of working as a speakerphone, like the Kyocera Wireless Bluetooth headset with Speakerphone.

The headset is the most common application of the Bluetooth technology. Bluetooth headset has become an essential element in the ever-changing mobile and wireless communications.

It's obvious that you are into a Fit when it comes to choosing your new television. 100 Manufacturers with 100 Models each with a 100 Different screen size and varied features driving you crazy. Help is around. You just need to ask.

First of all let's consider the biggest question of the TV Buyer, Plasma or LCD? What's the big difference? It's a TV after all! Well its not. Knowing your requirements will actually help you make a decision.

  1. Screen size: what Screen Size do you require? Where are you going to place your TV? In the Kitchen or your Bedroom where you are restricted to size, Or in your living room which can accommodate quite a Good screen Size?

Plasma Televisions are Quite Cheaper when it comes to large screen Size. Anything above 32 inches should be comparatively cheaper in the plasma range as to the LCD version

Plasma TV's Are generally bulkier than its LCD Counterpart.

  2. Clarity: As you may have special requirements apart from your Daily news and the cartoon for kids. For instance a Gaming TV requires that you have a good clarity and instant turn around time for vision. Plasma TV's in this case have a few setbacks and certain advantages.

A plasma TV has something called a burn area. When an image is set on screen for a long time (Say for instance a log of BBC channel while you are on the news for more than a few minutes) it tends to burn the image in the area. Even after you switch off the Television you see an outline of the Logo. This is not really good if you are looking for a gaming PC. LCD TV's Have Literally no Burn in.

Plasma TV on the other hand have great image Contrast and Specifically greater Visibility on Dark image areas. This is still an area which WAS drastically required on the LCD TV. The current LCD Televisions have gone a long way ahead in this area already and the difference is minimal though it still exists. LCD's Have a graying effect on the image which deteriorates its image clarity Specifically the Color factor.

  3. Viewing angle: LCD TV has a maximum viewing angel of 160-175 Degree but the quality deteriorates as the angle increases. Plasma television on the other hand maintains its quality even at a decent 160 degree angle
  4. Screen Life: Though LCD TV boasts a 40 Year screen life with 4 hours of TV viewing a day as compared to the 20 year screen life with its counterpart Plasma TV you could always count in on at least 20 years for an LCD TV and a Good 10 years for the Plasma.
  5. Power Consumption: Plasma TV's May be cheaper initially but will drain in a lot more power than the LCD Television. If you look at the Cost structure you would probably pay more than the TV price for Power on a plasma TV than that for an LCD.

Conclusion: Based on your requirement if your factor is Size

The bigger Screen size with Great performance for General TV viewing and you have a fixed budget go for Plasma. On the other hand if you are looking for Special Purpose TV for gaming etc and looking for more life for your television check out the Plasma TV's.

Note: Based on Research, We find that more people Buy LCD TV than the Plasma Version. The reason for their choice is not been obvious yet. We also noticed that the Sony and Samsung Version of the LCD Televisions are sold more than their competitors.

Is 720p vs 1080i worth being concerned about? Yes and no. If you're a consumer looking for a new TV, you can happily ignore the 720p vs 1080i debate because every TV which is described as HDTV or HDTV Ready is required to support both formats.

NOTE: You should be aware though that lots of TVs which support 1080i have fewer
than 1080 lines and so scale the 1080 signal down. That's not a huge issue as even
scaled down 1080i is far ahead of a regular NTSC signal. It is worth bearing in mind
that more expensive HDTVs tend to have better scalers than cheaper ones, and this
may be an issue.

However, for broadcasters it's a live issue. Should they broadcast 1080 lines of
interlaced video or 720 lines of progressive scan? They could just broadcast two
signals, one in each format, but that would use up a huge chunk of bandwidth and
be hugely expensive for very little gain.

To answer the question, it's important to understand the difference between 720p
vs 1080i. A 720p signal is made up of 720 horizontal lines. Each frame is displayed
in its entirety on-screen for 1/30th of a second. This is know as progressive scan
(hence the 'p')The quality is like watching 30 photographic images a second on TV.
A 1080i signal comprises 1080 horizontal lines but all the lines are not displayed
on-screen simultaneously. Instead, they are interlaced (hence the 'i'), ie every other
lines is displayed for 1/60th of a second and then the alternate lines are displayed
for 1/60th of a second. So, the frame rate is still 30 frames per second, but each
frame is split into two fields, which your brain then puts together subconsciously.

Most of the time interlacing works fine, but for fast moving images, such as sports
like baseball and hockey it can cause problems which manifest themselves as a
'stepping' effect on-screen. Progressive scan signals don't have this problem and so
are better suited to sports.

ESPN puts it like this: 'Progressive scan technology produces better images for the
fast moving orientation of sports television. Simply put, with 104 mph fastballs in
baseball and 120 mph shots on goal in hockey, the line-by-line basis of progressive
scan technology better captures the inherent fast action of sports. For ESPN,
progressive scan technology makes perfect sense.'

Bottom line? For us, as consumers 720p vs 1080i is not a debate worth worrying
about, so you can relax and focus on all the other criteria on your list when you buy
your next HDTV.

Ideally, the best LCD TV comparison should help you navigate through all the confusion surrounding buying an LCD television. It only seems like there's a lot to know. LCD flat screen TV's haven't been around for that long, so unless you've bought one before, you don't know what the issues are. This article is going to help you understand what you need to know in order to intelligently buy your next LCD flat screen TV. Hopefully, this will be the best LCD TV comparison you've read in 400 words or less.

There are a few things you have to think about when buying an LCD TV. If this is going to be the best LCD TV comparison in 400 words, I've got to mention plasma TV's. If you're already made the decision to buy an LCD TV over a plasma TV, then great. If you're still wrestling with that decision, let me put your mind at ease. It used to be that plasma had a better picture than LCD. But no longer! Technology has advanced so far that LCD TV's are now seen to be as good as plasmas. Also, LCD TV's are much lighter than plasma TV's. So, they're much easier to mount on the wall.

Next, you need to think about price and size, which are essentially the same thing. It's tempting to get as big a TV as you can afford, but you've got to factor in the room size. For instance, a 50-inch television would be out of place in most bedrooms. And a smaller 32-inch TV might get lost in a great room.

Obviously price is a consideration as well. Even in the best LCD TV comparison under 400 words in length I can't quote specific prices because those change so rapidly. However, you can get a very nice 32-inch TV for $600 to $800. The larger TV's are going to run you a few thousand.

Another consideration I need to mention in the best LCD TV comparison is resolution. There are basically three resolutions, but only two of them are considered high-definition, 720 and 1080p. The numbers refer to the number of lines across the screen, the p refers to the way the picture is interlaced. 1080p is currently the highest resolution. Most signals are not even that high. But don't think you have to spend the extra $200 to $300 to get 1080p. For smaller sets, 720 looks just as good. It's only when you get into the really large sets that you can tell much of a difference.

So you're thinking about buying a new LCD TV? Great, but it's really important to spend your hard earned cash on a TV that's perfect for you, your home and your wallet! So, we've put together a short 'Top 10 Tips' guide to help you make the most out of your new LCD TV.

This is a great time of year to be thinking about electronic big-ticket items and high definition LCD TVs are hot products that we're all looking to buy at the moment. Here's what you should remember...

1. Be sure you know the price market...LCD and plasma sets are both lower in cost than ever before right now. Once you've got a price range in mind, stick to it. That way you'll never regret spending too much afterwards!

2. For the most reliable quality in picture, sound, and performance, the big name brands are usually the better choice to stick to, but some of the smaller companies are beginning to challenge their dominance. Many of the models like JVC and Sony are known for quality, while LG is quickly becoming a quality player in the LCD TV world.

3. A good idea is to look for clearance models and older sets that are being priced to move. The year's newest models are all going to command top dollar price and you can save a lot of money by taking one of last year's perfectly fine models home with you instead. Models that are only just out of season drop massively in price, however they often have exactly the same features as the latest model in the range!

4. You can get more reductions off your television by asking if they have floor or demonstration models available. As they're already out of the box, its normally a nice way to save cash, but be sure there are no faults or damage to the unit, and insist on the regular warranty too. Check the LCD out at the store and look at the screen from different angles.

5. Take advantage of savings that can be had online. Stores like Amazon can offer incredible savings as they don't have the overheads that physical stores do. Also Amazon have regular sales and discounts to suit the season, so there's always a bargain to be had! Finally Amazon have a huge reputation for being reliable and having great customer service, So why not find a model you like in store, then see if you can save on its price with Amazon?

6. As a general rule of thumb, go for image quality over screen size. Its actually possible to get a television with an LCD screen that is too big for your room! You don't want to find yourself dwarfed by a screen that hurts your eyes to watch. You should be able to sit 10 feet away comfortably and still have a great viewing experience.

7. 1080p LCD TV or a 1920 x 1080 set will offer some of the most bang for your buck, with great picture quality and outstanding definition. Always go for great picture quality as a priority and don't forget to match the television size and features to its planned use, for instance a portable for the bedroom or a large screen for video gaming.

8. Check the reliability rating on any LCD flat screen TV before you purchase it. You can do this by looking at the online sites which show expert and consumer ratings as well as checking the reviews of each model before you commit to purchasing anything.

9. Most of these LCD TV models will come with extended warranties for additional fees, but the reliability of these is good enough to make this strictly optional. Your home insurance policy may cover any accidental damage, so you should decide if an extended warranty is for you.

10. The last and final tip may seem a bit obvious but its something many of us neglect to do! Its really important that you follow the manufacturers guide and take car of your LCD TV set as laid out in the manual, this will not only help extend the lifecycle of your new lcd model, but will also help the warranty remain water tight should the unthinkable happen and your set break down. Follow the care instructions and you should enjoy years of fantastic viewing out of your new model!
